Summers of Our Youth

We hoped summer would never end
those long hot summer days
warm summer nights
swimming, fishing, camping
tales around the campfire

We'd lie under a shade tree
watch the clouds form
castles, dragons, lions
pretending we were knights
or fair maidens

We'd ride our bicycles
sweat and laugh
When we were hot
We'd go down to the swimming hole
cool off and ride some more

Warm summer nights
were for campfires
telling scary tales
We'd watch the woods
The shadows, then a falling star

A time for first loves,
when summers had came and went,
in our teen years
We would learn of girls & boys
A time for first kisses

We'd walk side by side
watching the stars & the full moon
They'd light up our path
Our shadows were long
We stopped, laughing and kissing

We knew we always had our summer

I feel a longing reading this, as if it were my own youth which I only briefly had (outdoors) thanks to kidney disease. You express feeling and memories lost to so many more jaded poets. Thanks I'll be reading, but if I'm gonna get any work done today...

This brought back so many fond memories, dear friend. I wished then that summer would never end because I was rarely ever ready for school year to begin. Excellent work.

Ah, and what great summers we had in our youth! From youthful innocence, imagination and games to excitement, mystery, mischief and romance. The days of our youth seemed to have passed all to quickly, but they gave us wonderful memories to cherish. Your poem has brought back many memories and fun times that seem to have been a life time ago in one sense..and only days ago in another. Well written, one that most everyone can relate to. Enjoyed! Glad I stopped by.
Blessings,
Joyce B.
