The Cave

A storm came
the stars fell
from the sky
they gathered in the cave
watching in horror

After the storm
total darkness
surrounded them
their fire was the only light
it reflected the shadows

They looked into the sky
no stars, no moon
no sun
naked as their birth
only one another

Day by night
they waited for the light
watching their shadows
move on the face of stones
their only reality

The light slowly returned
the reflection was twilight
hard to see but had to be

A brave warrior
ventured into the thin light
as it started to be
He saw only dead
the dinosaurs bled

When he returned to the cave
they were afraid of him
he was turning their reality
into the fear deep in their hearts
He asked who would go with him

Only a few moved
knowing that they would starve
needing food and fresh water
He asked again
the people shook in fear

He would find the light
he preached
and he wouldn't wait for long

Those in the cave watched their shadows
moving into the fire light
their only sight of existence
