Little Stevie

that way gone cat
toe-headed wise ass
with the shit eatin grin

my friend, my brother

he'd say, Dig those far out babes
so fine... so damn Beautiful
Oh I dig women

Yes...Yes
that way gone cat
he'd hit on those ladies
with wit and charm
he'd lay it on thick

a wink of the eye
sparking fine
Yes...Yes

Dig that blowin cat
he digs time
living for today
no thought for tomorrow
forgetting yesterday

he's way way gone
still young in his mind
hidin in the cafes and bars

he'd sneak us into the drive-in movie
hidin in the trunk
trying not to laugh

and man we'd howl
at that crazy cat
laughing like loons

I remember when
he introduced me to my (future) wife
I had to duck in the backseat
cause her old man woulda killed me
she was only 15

Oh, Man!
we spooned under the moon
she beamed at me
her smiling glow
wondering at midnight

thinking of us
half naked at twilight
Little Stevie and his fine lady
and me with mine
kissing on and on
long long gone
sneaking around midnight

Yes...Yes

a way gone epiphany

Dig the lingo... !!!! :)) Waaaaaaaaay too cool for school, Dale, and no wonder with subject matter as rich and raw as this. Totally at your cinematic best here (well, guess you SHOULD be!) and makes me think George Clooney and Oh Brother Where Art Thou, somehow. Though, of course, that is to say I don't consider your family to be felons! Wonderful nostalgia and may that romance still burn as bright as your words of testimony here. Love, Kate xx
