lonely at the break of day
awaken from nightmarish fog
vowing to never return
to the past
where my heart may linger
but my soul is gone

lonely at first light
why when it's so bright

lonely at twilight
fading from another day
time flying by
wishing to delay
the fall of night
fast approaching

lonely at moon rise
why when lovers tryst

lonely at midnight
stars are falling
into the abyss
wishing for flight
my soul amiss
seeking brief respite
