the sky scrapers touched the clouds
while sidewalks along elongated cities
are paved with gold
castles of glitter and gloom
locked inside like prisoners
the poets scream in rhyme
rant, rave and count syllables
the madness within
and without
we could do anything but speak
we could walk the sidewalks
we could get on our knees
and touch our ankles
perhaps we could remove
the shackles
that bind us to the cities of the sky
we just need to bomb the mad man
then we’ll live forever happy
in our little cocoons
and count all the gold
not the poets though
they’re sentenced to comment
and be read
