The faded bricks of school days
where once we leaned upon
each other’s fate
sharing smokes in wintry grays
The faded fall of grace
in autumns Indian summer
when in dog days
We skinny dipped in pools
of muddy warmth
in our fabled youth
The faded winters snow
dirty now from wind blown
into schoolyard haze
We slogged through drifts
making paths to follow
each other home
The faded spring rain
falling outside the windows
of classrooms boredom
Books now turning gloomy
The pages torn and looming
upon our dismay
We leaned upon our desks
grinning at the confusions
The faded bricks of past
Sand blasts the bells
which no longer rings
We now punch clocks for pay
and youth has faded away
like the school yard memories
We share a smoke to remember
Our fates have grown apart
We’ve faded just like the bricks
in yards of lost school days
just like our past glories
Not only does this take you down memory lane where childhood memories reside, but the personal growth of and different paths of friends is a nice touch. ~Z~
