You Came to Me

You came to me
as I wandered aimlessly
in some kind of forced bliss
I called it peace
I didn’t have to feel

I was alone but felt alive
yet living was a ruse
These dreams I penned
when the ink dried
No words were there

You said I was beautiful
my words, my muse
I wanted to believe you
so I wrote them down
on pages of tear drops

You said I was brilliant
my light, my flame
but I had dimmed before
you came into my life
You couldn’t know that

You asked me to be me
but I had lost that person
long ago in some nightmare
where shadows lurked
where phantoms ruled

You told me you loved me
as someone in love before
with someone else
I couldn’t be
I felt your pain and sorrow

You said please don’t go
yet I knew that soon enough
Those dreams would appear
and in shadows I lurked
hiding from myself again

You came to me
as I stumbled onto this path
I fell into these words of verse
I said it breezily
I didn’t have to scream

You heard me whisper
and couldn’t understand
these blood stained pages
that unfolded me
into this man I couldn’t be

This is a very emotive poem. It's so easy to touch souls when emmotions from the heart are expressed. Bravo!

Sorry I haven't been reading your poems lately. :( I've been too busy in real life to comment much on AD. I'm glad I ran across your name on my old messages list. :)

deeply moving poem of our own self-demeaning.as the saying goes"we are our own worst enemy" I think when we can accept ourselves with all our faults, it makes it easier for others to do so too.Sorry didn't mean to get carried away. I loved the poem,dA.E, it stirred my emotions!;-)
