In horror, I stared at her! What had become of the girl I once knew!
I hardly recognized her, the years had not been kind,
I searched for the girl I once knew, the one I couldn't find.
Had she taken the wrong road at the crossroads of life?
If she had chosen more wisely, would her face reflect less strife?
Life must have sucked her dry, her eyes held no sparkle, just a blank stare,
Her countenance reflected that life had been not unfair.
My scrutiny caused an embarrassed blush, to touch her face,
The head turner, folks admired, was gone without a trace.
Seeing her now, made my tears fall into my coffee cup,
Holding my face in my hands, I let painful sobs erupt.
Tears blurred my vision, making it hard to see,
A mirror is just too truthful, the girl I use to know, was me.

After 60 they say your face falls on the floor anyway, so not to worry.
However, I don't think it is as bad as all that, SC. You are too funny.
But I've seen her and she is more than beautiful, reaching out to me with love and a sparkle that always makes me smile!

You have a caring heart SC, so sorry life has left your friend this way, this is a heart touching poem. It had to be your friend looking over your shoulder, your eyes still sparkle.
Very emotional piece. Life is a battle and so what if we get a few scars along the way. It only goes to show that we lived it. Every line, freckle or age spot that we acquire is our way of saying we've been there. Always keep life alive in your heart. (((Hugs))) and Blessings Always, Paul.
Awwwwww! So sad to see what we perceive to be inner reflections of the self. Sometimes we see more than what is really there. Be kind to yourself, smile, trust in God......
