I wanted love my way,
I wanted a man to naturally know what to say.
To make love really real,
To feel the emotions I wanted to feel.
So I took a sad, hopeless nomad, to make him my king,
He had no real substance, but I tried to make him my everything.
He was just someone that appeared, when I needed to trust,
My life was unhappy, stagnate, causing my heart to rust.
My love words were echoed from his dull lips,
I drank greedily from his toxic potion with lusty sips.
As time went on his true colors tried to bleed through,
But I ignored the warning signs, wanting a love so true .
I soon became weary of assuming all parts in the play,
Coming up with all the right things for both of us to say.
In a Love Story, two must take part,
One cannot lip-sync the other's words from the heart.
The cabbage I took to create my king,
Soon began to rot away, not leaving anything.
I now grieve over the hero I created from mist,
Now realizing, he was a figment of my imagination and didn't exist.
Oh my daughter could have wrote this as well, she always tries to make a silk purse out of sow's (not sure of the spelling) ear. Great poem which I plan to share with my daughter. There's a special man out there that would fit you like a glove. He's there just waiting. Love, Bonnie
Role reversal for Eliza and Professor Higgins...but did it work? And was there any harm done in trying? None. Thanks for the idea, the great imagination and the sharing, SC.
