Many people tell someone with a painful past, "GET OVER IT!", but flashbacks, night terrors and bloody emotional wounds are hard to get over.
In the closet, dark and deep,
Are the secrets that I am forced to keep.
Forced to swallow my tears, then forced to smile,
This is truth for a Shadow Child.
What goes on behind closed doors, is the family's business, not for others to know,
So lies, abuse and cruelty, are deemed perfectly fine when a parent says, " Because I said so!"
Out of the mouths of Ma and Pa,
Comes dictated insanity, their rules, their unjust law.
Shadow Child lives with loneliness, isolation, keeping secrets dark as night,
No one steps in to save her, what is done is the parent's right.
She lives in confusion, disillusionment' surviving in a wasteland,
Where Jabberwocky is the spoken language, impossible to understand.
I love you, translates into I hate you, followed by a slap,
You have no voice, no rights, you are prey caught in a trap.
In Shadow Land, you are lost in time,
Where parents abuse your body and slowly destroy your mind.
A terrible thing to do to any child. Now these kind of things can be stopped. In the schools children are taught to go to teachers, nurses and even neighbors for help if they are abused. We are trying to make the public aware of these precious angels and their plight. thank you for an eyeopening write.

To survive such a childhood and have walked in the shadowland and found your way out of there is an accomplishment, to survive, prosper and help others as you do today with this poem is a miracle. Sadly you should not have had to got through either.

SC NO child should have to wear these scars for life or feel this pain forever. Those that have not gone through it don't understand or don't want to. We were there but we were lucky as my Mom was a very loving person. Thank you for sharing SC and I feel your pain dear.
Little rattle snake, we got the scars to prove and the ears to close to the ones with that casual "get over it" which they will not if someone punches their noses for no reason.
Shadow Land---Is a very scary place to be and for those people who say, "Get over it" have simply, no understanding and a serious lack of compassion, empathy and knowledge of the worst pain, the pain that continues to hurt inside.

Heartbreaking - the damage done may never be repaired or forgotten - your own PTSD - a living hell. I'm sorry you had to go through this ... you're in my (((HUGS))) and prayers.
It's easy for people to presume anything, and presume whatever it is that is bugging you to just get over it and move on; but what they don't know is that if you're a shadow child you'll always have flash backs every instance when someone says something that intrigue your thoughts.
Shadow children are often misunderstood as "unapproachable" for their silence and unwilling to open up.
There are a lot of shadow children in this world, that is why we shouldn't judge another perso until we really get to know that person first.
Dear SC, if this poem wasn't about your pain, I would say its brilliant for it is. But since it is about the pain you've endured the pain is unbearable for all who can imagine this beautiful little girl treated so badly. But inspite of all the cruel world and parents dished out to her, she survived and became a beautiful inspiring adult with love and kindness in her heart.
