Children Feel What They Hear

Mom and Dad were fighting again, so Amy took shelter in a tree,
They were always fighting, was this what marriage was suppose to be?
Do all Moms and Dads wear scowls and rue the day they were wed?
Why can't they realize that they have wounded a little heart by the hateful things they said.
Amy thought if she were only a better little girl, that would be the remedy,
She berated herself daily, whispering," It's all my fault, it's me!"
So in the middle of a heated battle, Amy just slipped away,
Mom and Dad didn't miss her until night overtook day.
Suddenly the Warriors made a truce, for they found common ground,
Crying in each other's arm, their lost child must be found.
Hand in hand they searched, they had become a united force,
With tortured hearts and minds and were so eaten by remorse.
Their endless search for Amy was in vain,
So they headed to the Police Station, with hearts heavy with pain.
At last they used soft, gentle voices, filled with concern and care,
That would have made Amy smile, but sadly Amy wasn't there.

Oh how children absorb all the hurt like a sponge, yet none is their fault....

Outstanding write SC
Amy thought it was her causing all their problems
If only she knew that is was her
That cause a unity, like you said between two warriors
If only she were there to share what she caused unconsciously.
Love & Peace be with You SC

Sweet Comfort, the truth in your excellent poem is almost too painful to read, the sign of a superb writer/observer. -gene.

Reality in this writing. If parents live in hate towards each other, they should go their separate ways and not damage the children.

The mirror image of a 12 years old globetrotter that got feed up with the constant bickering of the "domestic warriors"
Thanks, I needed to remember I was right then.

It is sad that when two people cannot get along it is usually the children who suffer the most and though I have often heard people say they should work things out, in reality that usually doesn't work for even if their tongues are silenced the hatred and animosity linger over all. My first wife and I were only kids when we married and had a child, only to discover we hated each other the longer we stayed married. I loved my daughter and though it broke my heart to have to live separate from her I truly to this day think it was for the best. We are as close as any father and daughter can be and she knows I always loved her...

Oh how sad a write my friend SC...for it is so true, children find someway of blaming themselves for everything. We have to be more careful to let them know they are loved and cherished. Tears, Love, Bonnie
