Every epoch has its follies
One time from the people,
One time from its officials
One time it's fear,
One time it's cheer
When they drink their beer.
The kings had their jesters
The people their clowns
Laughing for different reasons
According to the seasons.
As the great king said, "There is nothing new under the sun." This poem, too, has the tone of Ecclesiastes. I just looked up the meaning of the word (ecclesiastes) and found it means, preacher. One who proclaims the truth. Well, there you go. Well done, my friend.
And on and on it goes. Where she stops, nobody knows. Reminds me that these is nothing new under the sun, just repeating cycles of eras, good for some, not so good for others. Bless you, J'nia
I raise my glass to you, dear Emile...even 'tho I'm limited to a ha'pint now and then :o) Enjoyed your "cheer" for the day...

Didn't the wicked witch of the west say the same thing as she was melting, melting...oh, what a world...;-) ed (don't listen to Edvark, he is not only sober but senile too...)
OMG! ! ! a ode to my Coors beer! you are a man of all seasons to me, despite my lil'brother's derogatory comments about it.
Sir, after giving her dues (the beer I meant) you are in a special place, for all seasons!
Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
