I wonder how a nation can understand another nation when each one speaks a different language

Understanding Each Other

Many times I wonder
how nations can understand
each other without blunder
When in every land
A different language is at hand

Many times I find
That translators are at a loss
When words around they toss
Although their methods are refined
The meaning escapes when words are combined

Many times I look
At people of the same nation
But of different education
They may seem to use the same word
But they barely understand a third

Many times people of the same kin
Do not seem to be able to win
Each one talks for himself, not the other
And one does not understand his brother.

As for me who speaks a few
Languages, I wish I knew
How to explain in each of them
What in another I find is a gem.

I find this difficult situation
To be an obstacle for every nation
To fairly interact and cooperate
In finding solutions at a better rate

But time will come when many folks
Will look back and think it was a hoax
As  the language will come from Above
And will teach everyone the art of love.

Good insight. I couldn't help but recall the story of the tower of Babel and how the people were scattered, each group with their own distinct language. They could no longer understand one another and it seems to remain to this day. If we could understand, would another tower be built or something better? A tower of peace and understanding would be welcomed. Hugs, J'nia

Such meaningful sentiments are a recipe for peace in this world, mon ami Emile. Merci! Love and peace to you,

Doesn't matter what language one speaks when understanding is wanted.
Those that tells you that their ideas, resolutions, will, are the true ones and that you must accept them without discussion...understanding has been thrown out the window.
It is not the language, but the inflexibility the one kicking understanding out of the equation, it is not the translation or the translator but the demagogue recipient unwillingness to consider that he could be wrong.
Maybe Babel Tower wasn't a question of too many languages but too few masons.

Georg

I don't believe it is the problem of what is said in what language Emile but how one takes what is said. Often people don't don't know how to express themselves properly. Another great write.

It has been discovered that one actually paints a picture of the world based on the language they use to describe it. That's why in the dumbing-down process of the nation, they seek to limit the vocabulary of the unwashed masses. Just like in 1984 and Newspeak. They want to actually eliminate the entire concept of rebellion and uprising by destroying first then word, then the notion of it all together.
