We Are Never Alone
When I was in kindergarten, I was four years old
The first days I went with my mom, it was cold
Until we finally reached the kindergarten‘s door
We had to cross a few streets, it was like a chore.
I used to run, as I wanted to be alone to enter
After class, the bell rang, in the courtyard’s center
Everyone had someone waiting for him or her
I didn’t want anyone with me, as it were.
Sometimes, I lost my way going back home
As from place to place I loved to roam.
It took a good while to find our street
As I was in no rush and dragged my feet.
I loved strolling alone and felt good about it.
Sometimes the streets were poorly lit
But I kept going until I reached our place
And saw through the window my mother’s face.
The only word my mom would say: “you are here”.
What kept me going in the dark, without fear
Was that I felt I was never alone. Until this day
This feeling remained with me along my life's way.
