Did politeness and courtesy
Become a rare commodity?
In our days, not ready to say a nice word,
People find our rules of conduct absurd
This is due to our demographic change
As many find the world we live in strange
For many the words “thank” you or “please”
Do not come to their lips anymore with ease
When one holds the door open by decency
He feels it’s a due and not a courtesy
When I was young our first morning lesson
Was a class where ethic behavior was the question
The teachers told us to be nice to the elderly
Help carry a bag or hold the door, we learned early
Ready to rescue anyone in need or doing a favor
Those lessons were similar to “love thy neighbor”
