"The Pale Face Continue Their War" (Karena Series)

Father Sky, Mother Earth,
Sister Moon, Brother Wind,
Calling on all the elements
to come together for guidance
On this starry autumn night.

The battle continues with the pale face,
They come with their fire sticks,
and raid our villages and steal our food,
when the night is at it's darkest.
They think we are asleep.

Do they know that we sleep during the day,
to be ready for their senseless acts of murder.
When will this cease, when will the eagle come.
My family has separated.
My children are across the river for safe keeping.

Tumas is on scouting missions,
and I stay behind to heal all the wounded.
It is a mess, and the pale face won't go back
to their Motherland.
I feel so helpless, so hopeless.

Pocahontas, has been in hiding,
She has had many kidnapping scares
during the last two moons, so Powhatan
has hidden her from our enemies.
The pale face want to ransom her for tobacco crops.

We are a very proud and astute people,
We protect our own, never faltering from the truth,
We fight only when we are attacked,
We win because it is our land and honor.

The Eagle flies overhead,
The time is now, to move to the next home,
We have defended this land long enough,
We must move on toward the river
before all of my people have parished.

Powhatan commands from his secret place,
He rules even when he is not present,
His warriors are faithful and protect him
with their lives and their love.

Powhatan is a very diligent and respected chief,
He trusts in the Great Spirit and the power of the Eagle,
Never has he given in to the Pale Face,
Never will he surrender his family or people
before he dies first.

The night is long, and the stars begin to dim,
when we finally gather all our belongings
and start our journey toward the east river banks.
Tomorrow will be better, we will get sleep
and be ready for another evening of battle and healing.
