Great analysis, Thomas. You are absolutely correct, the initial damage occured nearly 20 years ago and should have (could have?) been avoided way back then. An outside influence caused the problem that continues to plague our relationship til this day. Being human, we all tend to let our emotions control certain times of our lives and I do that quite frequently in my writing. Sometimes, I'm sorry I let that happen, but alas, I am at times weak. So be it. I stand firm in my faith in God and place problems such as this in His hands and He has come through every time. And yet, I still write how I feel in hopes that what I write may help whoever may read it in a positive way. Maybe someday I will learn to harness my emotions and simply let sleeping dogs lie. As I follow all poetry on AD, this caught my eye and if I remember correctly, I believe you wished for devil rain on "her special day" as you published in your poem that is no longer on line, why would you have been included in whatever this special occassion was to "her"? The flip flop in poetry from compassion, love of God and hatred of man kind of bewilders me at times. This kind of damage in a relationship does not happen over night so maybe it should have been avoided long ago. I'm an author as well as in the health profession, it is always amazing to me how people are surprised at the end result of things they helped cause for a long time. I wish you peace and hopefully a reunion of sorts with whomever "she" happens to be. Respectfully, Tom
Some broken hearts never mend, but forgiveness is always a choice... and a viable option. Only when forgiveness is associated with emotions does it become an impossibility. We do not feel to forgive, we make a choice too.
It may be very hard, but you have to forgive, or else Jesus will never forgive you. I have had to learn this for myself; I have since forgiven those who have hurt me, but I can't ever forget. Still, I pray for those who hurt me, and you must do this too. Otherwise, you will end up an angry, bitter person; I know. I've been there until I put my burdens at the Cross of Calvary. Now I finally have peace. I will pray for you that you end up forgiving her; it's the only way you can move on or have peace in your life!

Paul, there is deep feeling in this poem. Hurt caused by someone can take on a lot of extra emotions. To deal with them the best method is: "Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change...the courage to change the things I can...and the wisdom to know the difference."
