Fractured Hearts

Poem Artwork

The time has come it seems

To heal the broken dreams

The time to mend our fractured hearts

For us that time is now

And we’ll find the strength somehow

To walk away and make a brand new start

On the edge of someone’s dreams

Is not the place where self esteem

Or the place where happiness is found

Life’s surely more than this

Than a morning hug and kiss

An emptiness where loneliness abounds

Is your heartbreak same as mine?

Are the memories all that bind?

Are we a habit that just can’t seem to die?

If you had another chance

Would choose to dance this dance

Or find delight in someone else’s eyes?

All the sacrifices made

The broken hearted days

The price is far too great to pay

Is that sadness that I find

When I look into your eyes

Or a reflection of what you see in mine?

Is it too late to adjust

Can we learn to love and trust

Find the passion that we both once shared

Do we dare to look inside

Or is it better that we hide

Behind the lies, pretending that we care

The bitterness I feel

Is not directed at you dear

Just a longing a need to feel alive

I want to feel more real

And on this I must be clear

You’re not the blame for this bumpy ride

So one more hug and one more kiss

Know its something that I’ll miss

As I take my leave and set out on my way

And in time when hearts have healed

And new happiness revealed

You’ll understand just why I couldn’t stay

The time has come it seems

To heal the broken dreams

The time to mend our fractured hearts

'Leaving' poems are always sad, but I still enjoyed this one. I love the line 'On the edge of someone's dreams'

Standing On My Knees by Pinkstone
