I wrote this one for a young friend with stars in her eyes. Alot of young girls don't realize what they open themselves up to on the internet and it saddens me. Also been very inspired by my favorite country music- Toby Keith, Trace Adkins, Blake Shelton, Emerson Drive, but especially, Jamey Johnson.

Girl child, don’t be blackened by the sudden fall of Mars

or forget that broken things happen in backseats of cars

when the moon has been stolen on the eve of the day

and your strings need tuning as the stars look away

Girl child, I hope with those big eyes you are able to see

wolves by those same moons in dirty suits gotten free

flocking round the lambs without a blink or a care

until the meadow is as empty as the soul you left there

For a time will come when the planets no longer spin so fast

and in those long moments only the bright ones will last

so much time is spent on the raising of a million tiny stars

but it’s your back that’s flat against yourself in seedy old wine bars

Girl child, hands will grab you when the wad of cash is flashed

even on the way down when your high price has been slashed

twisting won’t get you back the simple roads you walked upon

goodbye to the girl you’d used to be when day had just begun

Girl child, I know you won’t heed these older person’s words

too easy it is right now to run off with fame’s mobbing herds

but maybe one night when the stars are twinkling bright

the moon will remind you that my few words to you were right

For a time will come when the planets no longer spin so fast

and in those long moments only the bright ones will last

so much time is spent on the raising of a million tiny stars

but it’s your back that’s flat against yourself in seedy old wine bars

Michele, your message is like the one I attempted to relate in my poem, "Seedy Bars" last year -- your poem has done it so much better than mine -- I think we both feel that this is message that needs to get out to the young ones, girls and boys -- this is very nice work, crafted by a true artist --your last line is so prophetic -- peace, joy, and love to you my friend -- JMW

Very realistic. The part about how they won't listen especially got to me. When we were that age, we knew it all. Then we have the pleasure of looking back and knowing wise people were right. I guess that's the cycle of life. Hugs,
Sheila

Wonderfully expressed! Often the road to "fame and fortune" is paved with the bones and the blood of the majority that cannot make it to the top. You are also right that youth heeds us not...perhaps that is for the best, for no lesson learned too easily is learned at all.
May you know great peace and joy,
Jim

Strong lyrics with a deep message not just for your young friend but for all who venture into the realm of love on the internet. I can see this more as a Tracy Chapman song belted out in a smokey blues voice...love it.

Sad that something so wonderful can be so damaging to not just our young ones but all ages as it is too easy to be lured away by charm. We have raised five children with rules and regulations when it came to the internet. Thank you for sharing Michelle.

Michelle we have to be careful when a child goes online, I know when my niece is up, I am in here with her when she uses the computer and she knows the limits! Our taste in country music seems to be similar I love Jamey Johnson!

There are some good things and some bad things about young people on the internet. The good things are that it is treated as a resource for unlimited new knowledge and technologies; the bad is being exposed to the things that they should not be introduced to.

But isn't that the case too in real life. There are some good people and some bad people. The best we can advise youngsters is to take caution and never talk to strangers. However, I know it would be a tough job for the parents.

A good thought-provoking write!!
