The Moon & A Thought

last night as i sat in a seat on the sandy shore,
i gazed at the night across the lonely sky.
the waves on the bay were ever at play.
their soft whispers heard in the night,
haunting my thoughts, haunting my mind.

the day was ready to pass on to yesterday.
then to my surprise a gentle light broke through the sky.
in only a moment the moon opened it's eye.
as it rose over the bay, it's soft light brightened
the end of the day.

but then, as if in sync,
the moon hid it's light behind some clouds.
and in that moment the loneliness returned to my alone.
memories of long past moons shadowed the light in my heart.
in that part of me that knows such thoughts and feels such feelings it grew gray.

at that moment, that second in time,
the moon cleared the clouds, a thought came to mind.
as the moon's light brightened the sky,
that single thought brought light to my night.
the loneliness passed from my alone.

and as that day drew to a close,
passing forever in to the yesterdays,
that single thought was of tomorrow,'
which now is today.
that thought was a thought
of you. and i smiled.
