You write to say you’ve heard what I have said, you hear the feelings I continue to experience. You have considered these things all so carefully.
Feelings?
Wounded. Weary. Cut. Confused. Contaminated. Far more than simple feelings to be tidied up and stored on the shelf under “inappropriate.”
Disappointment. Deep Distress. Scorn for Self. Regret for signing away something I can’t have again… a hard, cold fact I live with, no mere feeling state.
Feelings?
The raw reality of life as I have come to know it leaves no room for feelings, only for Numbness. Emptiness. Lack of Nothing. Everything.
I’ve vaguest recollection of how your kindness saved me, of a friend who shrugged his shoulders and turned against me, Broken. Bruised. Battered. Barely Breathing.
Feelings?
I write to say I’ve heard what you have said,I hear the judgment cloaked in bafflement you would imply. I have considered these things all so carefully.
6.21.04 Feelings?
I love you, yes, my friend; but it’s far more than that that lives and breathes inside of me, brings me back to you, to feelings I cannot experience.
So personal and naked, like tuning in to someone's private telephone conversation. This is indeed a unique construction and the delivery is potent and penetrating. You speak personally as one person to a known other, and yet no one is exempt from the feelings of immense pain and honesty that we are drawn into here. Do we know what it is to feel like this? Have we ever made anyone else feel like this?! These are questions that we are caused to consider here, I think. This poem is so full of emotion and feeling whilst yet almost in denial, so as to trigger a self-defence mechanism in order to protect and anaesthetise what remains. A raw, bleeding write, Dawn, and it must have taken much energy and courage to be able to express these things. Thankyou for your bravery and portraying such vulnerability... few of us, I think, would be able to even BEGIN going there. Bless you.
