Inspired by Psalm 35

I am weary, Lord, of fending off
false accusations to no avail.
I stand firm in truth and wait on you.
Rumors persist; enemies assail.

            Madness, too, seeks out those falsely accused,
            settles in the mind like fine morning mist.

They mock my sincerity, spit on
peace offering, laugh riotously
when I ask why they push me away,
celebrate my failure to break free.

            I seek the truth, and yet they blindfold me.
           They sew letters on my clothes, turn their backs.

I have heard your call to wait. I know
in due time you will make all things right.
But so long, Lord – so long, so much lost.
Why are you silent about my plight?

            I am torn, Lord. Hear my anguish. Come close.
            Or lift me from this life to your heaven.

Those who could not entrap me dug deep
and threw me in their pit. They left me
for dead and then spread stories untrue .
Now: your silence, too. Vindicate me.

            Withhold your presence no more, Abba, God.
            Hold me hold me hold my fair child and me.

May your greatness be proclaimed among
friends, enemies. May we reconcile,
one in spirit, one in truth; forgive,
turn to God, forsaking Satan’s guile.

            I will stand until dark prince falls and faith
            brings unity, blessed restoration.
