In smile that spread across his face I recognized
very love of God who came first to us a child.

In tiny fingers wrapped around my own I felt
God’s gentle, magnificent touch upon my life.

In his endless curiosity, urge to “come,
come and see,” I heard echo of God’s calling me.

In eyes that found best in me I was reminded
of how God had blessed us both immeasurably.

In his joyous run, trusting leap into my arms
I live and learn again God's whole embrace of me.

In his honest, simple prayers for those in most need
I know how much greater God’s compassion must be.

Gracious God, this is all I need: gift of this child
you’ve blessed me with to lead me ever back to you.

In his heart – tender, true – I see so much of you;
Lord, God, renew in me heart of a little child.
