Poem Artwork

Rising, rising.
            Ran right beside.

            Gave me wings –
            swift, golden things.

            Still higher soared,
            up to the sky.

            Into the sun.
            Life had begun

Falling, falling.
            Pushed out, away.

            Removed faint hope.
            How could I cope?

            Plummeted down,
            forgotten then.

            Buried beneath

funeral wreath.

Rising, rising.
           Clawed my way back.

            From ashen deep,
            throw-away heap.

            Now here I stand,
            firmly planted.

            Champion of
            your life, my love.

Falling, falling.
            Blind once, you see.

            Love found us out,
            fear led to doubt.

            So, too, do I
            understand this:

            Though one dream dies,
            phoenix will rise.

Rising, rising.
            Will we yet fly?

            Find common ground,
            hands clasped, hearts bound?

            Might we explore
            edge of what’s known?

            Forgive, embrace

some starting place?

Hi Dawn, I loved that aspect of the Phoenix arranged in the equation too, there all the while, and along with all of it, so many opportunities to rise, al

Your ending is a great start and you have captured the physical weakness with your "exhausted" language and format. Another attention-grabbing and unique write from you, Dawn. Love the battle between extreme physical weakness/battle-weariness and resiliance of spirit/hope and determination here. You have a gift for being able to express great profundity and breadth with economical and eye-catching style. Also like the way you are able to express "affairs of the heart" with such ingenious metaphors: Your writes are special! TY Kate xx
