I am dawn, but many sunsets live
within broken vessel that I am.

Fiery orange and pearly pink hues,
evening cool, the chatter of small birds,

Swelling cricket chorus – all reside
in spacious heart, aching and alone.

I die here. Some say I’m beautiful,
admire exquisite color poured out

On life’s empty page. To them, I am
object of admiration, wonder

Dark, crying sunset tears – nobody
they could touch, befriend or come to love.

I am dawn, filled with approaching night,
broken, breaking, needing love’s long light.
