No Greater Pain

There is no greater pain than having hurt
someone you only meant to love

  appropriately,
    magnanimously,
with the purest part of who you are.

Except that pain of feeling unforgiven
by someone you hurt but only meant to love,
            being dispossessed and friendless.

There is no greater sorrow than having to bear
the silent hostility of that one you love

  immeasurably,
    passionately,
with the eternal flame of your very soul.

Except that sorrow borne on a piercing wind
of indifference whose icy reminders stab deep,
ever melting in a fiery love that will not die.

A very painful confession wrapped in in beautiful verse.
Sometimes we have to "really" let things go before they
can come back to us. Superb poetry Dawn!

Dawn, you have encompassed the emotion upheaval that one who has a conscience goes through created by misunderstanding the one you love.

Dawn--this is truly a well written poem. I like how you did this. Your style is original and somehow you always manage to dig deep in emotion and put it out there. I can feel this.

Searing and jagged in both form and content, Dawn. You have plunged to the depths of an agony that is all too familiar to us all. Misunderstanding is a hard pill to swallow. Excellently portrayed, thank you, Kate xx

Very profound, insightful...and sadly, all too true. The people we love the most in our lives are the ones we (I) always seem to hurt. A moving, well written poem that really captures the remorse (guilt) that follows. "There is no greater sorrow than having to bear the silent hostility of that one you love." Excellent.
