In through the out door, I passed
with fear and trembling full.
A sheep unclothed, fears massed,
down from my eyes hung wool.

Bleating to go my own way,
my master with the crook
of his staff made me stay,
commanded me to look.

In the hollow room were clocks,
all stopped at random times,
which appeared as building blocks
for lives once full with chimes.

An echo of silence rang
from rafters leaking tears.
The imaginary clang
of a coffin filled my ears.

The shepherd led me through dark
that took both sight and soul,
and back into daylight stark,
which took expected toll.

Out through the in door, we went
on a less-traveled road.
Though I be broken and bent
and carry this full load,

my eyes are open, now wide.
My heart seeks peace and rest
and knows it will abide
in hope and truth in time.
