At sunset 
on Sunrise Boulevard, 
twenty years to the day, 
the same thunderclap
brings it all back,
though I see it all 
through different eyes
and you exactly the same to me
as you ever were. 

In the lobby of the hotel,
they serve free ice cream
and, for a split second 
in the flash of lightning
across the ocean, I wonder
how you managed it:
the making appearances
and ice cream social
after all that you undid,
unknowingly perhaps.

But then the skies part
and the dove descends
and my heart asceneded
remembers now how you
kept your promise in all
the doing and undoing, 
in all your believing
in limitation and how that
through some mystery of grace
set me free in time. 

So here I am on the avenue
of miracles, in a field
of unknowing where all
is revealed as whole
and I complete, ever
standing on the shore
honoring your journey on the seas,
always and forever
your friend.
