Poem Artwork

The Affair

She bathed in the love
showered on her,
tiny droplets like blood
staining the holy threads
that bound her to another.
A husband mourned his loss,
regret burned holes in his heart
for the knots he tied
in those same holy threads.
He imagined her basking
in her lover’s smile,
cried as she ate forbidden fruit,
and waited, his eyes to heaven,
numbed to the pain he felt,
self-respect shelved,
deep guilt bared
for the wanting,
for the return
he hoped would come.
Holy threads that bind her to him,
holy threads that stretch and bend,
holy threads without forgiveness
will never pull her home.

Perhaps he is the lucky one. Introspection places some of the blame on him and in that he is willing to forgive, forget and change. You tell it so well.

Emotion upon emotion mounting in this poem...love can be a glorious blessing and an excrutiating pain,,,but the touchof Holy threads and forgiveness give this such an artist's touch. Much enjoyed and felt, CJ.

Such a heart-rending scenario you paint here CJ. God lord ... the indiscretions we force upon one another.

Much sadness and heartbreak in this one, CJ. My only question is, was the secret affair worth the pain in the end? My sorry is for the husband...not for Eve! Still, this well written poem should stir the conscience of many...

God Bless

Oh CJ you captured the aching and pain of betrayal so well in this ine, I could feel myself sitting there beside him or perhaps being him as hope slowly dwindled away. You will touch people with this one dear friend.
