Poem Artwork

His Name was Doug

and I knew he loved me.
Bigger than life,
he was a man’s man
so at home in his skin.
His legs bowed just a little
creating a sexy swagger
when he walked.
He was ornery as cat dirt
most of the time
non-filtered Camels
tucked in a pocket, or
rolled in a T-shirt sleeve,
tanned arm out the side window
cruising a titty-pink & white ‘57 Chevy
and I knew he loved me.
He could cuss and fight
with the best of them,
a man’s man,
but gentle with me
running his fingers
through my hair
while I sat on the floor
between his bowed legs
as we watched TV
and I knew he loved me.
Uncle Sam needed medics in Nam.
He never thought to question.
The town sheriff was Dad
and Dad taught him
to do what’s right.
His name was Doug,
bigger than life,
a man’s man,
so easy in his skin,
ornery yet gentle,
and I knew even my name
was safe in his mouth
because he loved me.
Dear God,
how I loved him, too ...

CJ, this is such a beautiful tribute to a man that shared your heart. It is a terrible thing, war. I wish that we could all live in peace and harmony. This very sad piece touched my heart, CJ. The way that you talk about him here, we all know what a wonderful man he was.

But he is with God, and he is also beside you too. I can see too, that you affectionately take strength from all that he did, and all the love he had for you, and you had, and still have, for him.

Very sad CJ, but thank you for sharing these deeply personal emotions and thoughts.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. May He comfort your soul, by placing Doug at your side, to watch over you and yours. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little den sister, Barbie

And Doug's cherished name and memory are richly nourished continuously by your deep, bottomless fountain of love.
Thank you for sharing this intimate tribute.

CJ, dear CJ, this one touches the heart and soul deeply, my friend. I'm so sorry this had to happen. A loved one, so young, take away like this, is difficult to understand, almost impossible to forget. Be stong, one day you will meet again. For now, hold on to the sweet memories and treasure those night-time dreams.

God Bless you always...Remember, He holds you tenderly in His care!

Lots of love
Lena

It must have taken amazing strength and resolution to write this CJ. Although I see in the picture a beautiful bride, I say your beauty has magnified ten fold. You are indeed a brave young lady and I love you for it.
