He was just an old country preacher.
Many never even hear his name
while others sought tall steeple churches
he had no desire for such great fame.
He went about his regular work
in his very own humble way
serving the needs his little flock
twenty-four hours every day.
His sermons aren’t printed in a book
but he worked hard on them just the same.
It was the way he served his people
that helped him achieve his great name.
When he finished his life on this earth
and collected his eternal reward.
His body was fittingly buried
in a small country church graveyard.

I love the last line, revealing that his body rests in the place he loved most.
Sincerely,

Then were those very very few preachers that talked about understanding, loving thy neighbors, Jesus and goodness, and the need to love your Father in heaven that always will forgive His strying sons.
Your father's sermons should have been a pleasure to hear.

He sounds like a wonderful man than many people felt honored to know...a humble man who never knew how great he was in others eyes.
A very dear man in your heart is evident in your words...thank you for sharing!!
Dee
I have enjoyed the reading of a magnificent poetic composition.
