He looks through metal bars each day
as smiling faces all walk by.
Sometimes when he just wants a drink
the water source is all dry.
Sometimes a nice person slides food
through the metal bars by his face
others tease and irritate him
and treat him like a disgrace.
Then there are those who rub his paws
and gently scratch behind his ears
speaking to him tender caring words
which relieve him of all his fears.
Then a day comes out of the blue
when one comes and unlocks his door
as he is released to freedom
and friendship forever more.
People, like dogs, are in cages
which may have invisible bars.
Some even place themselves inside
thinking they are important stars.
Some may pass by and ignore you
and some are there to put you down
tormenting you and teasing you
changing your smile to a frown.
But one man gave his life for you
breaking all bars and chains of life
and he sends his brothers and sisters
to help restore you to full life.
