a plate of chicken mediterranean seasoned sat before me as nourishment i took a bite and sensed its substance my mind wandered off into the past volumes of beauty treasures of life volumes of sorrow cruelty of life i turned them off and returned to the meal how it felt in my hand spices and juices on my fingertips before i could notice the taste on my lips my mind wandered off into tomorrow what ifs and banquets offered themselves believing desires of future will replace past pain i return to the plate, it is nearly empty having consumed these morsels without even noticing sad i felt for wasting them for past and future are saying nothing and this lunch, this fuel, this life giving substance deserves my current attention
