Some people would use
the misfortunate circumstance of another
to their own full advantage to advance themselves.
They would push the other person away,
distancing themselves from this other person,
even hurting and harming this other person.
But there is a saying in Chinese
that we should not use all that we can
to our own advantage to harm another,
that we should always leave a path for ourselves,
that somehow in the future, circumstance may arise
that we may need help from this other person's as well.
That Chinese prophecy
is said to be interpreted as
something similar to the following -
"Don't use the wind to your full advantage.
You must always leave a path open for your return."
I ENJOYED THIS, SANDIE. AND THERE IS ANOTHER WISE CLICHE' THAT I GREW UP WITH WHICH IS SOMEWHAT SIMILAR AND IT GOES LIKE THIS; 'NEVER CLOSE ALL THE DOORS BEHIND YOURSELF...LEAVE SOME OPEN SO YOU CAN ALWAYS GO BACK.' HOWEVER, KEEPING THAT IN MIND BUT WITH A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW, HERE IS A PERSONAL ONE THAT HAS HELPED ME GREATLY; 'THE ONLY TIME WHEN IT'S GOOD TO BE 'USED' IS WHEN YOU'RE BEING 'USED' BY GOD, SO...WHAT 'HE' HAS DELIVERED YOU FROM, BE WISE AND DO NOT RETURN TO IT.' IN FACT, I WAS INSPIRED SOME TIME AGO TO WRITE A POSTED POEM ENTITLED, 'USED'. THANKS FOR THIS SHARING, MY FRIEND. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS
The only reason I can think for harming another is revenge. If someone does great harm to you, there is a tendency for revenge. Stopping that tendency can be hard. It is called forgiveness. But I would rather not forgive someone who transgressed against me. Just not respond.
