A living piece of furniture

THE ROCKING CHAIR

There it sat.  So still and all alone.
A rocking chair that rocked no more.
Its resident had left the earth.

I looked at it and how sad it seemed
I was tired and wanted to take a nap
I sat in the chair and rocked it ever so
gently until I finally fell asleep.

The thing that happened next
was really hard to believe, the rocking
chair actually talked to me.

Are you really going to let them take me away
After all I’ve done for you?  Your mother
sat in this chair before she gave you life!

And when she found out you were in her womb
She rocked you both gently, for the ease of both you.
Than when you became a babe,
The beautiful lullabies she sang.

When you were a child and skinned your knee
Mom and I told you not to cry, it would be okay
As you grew, and boys broke your heart,  once
again, you’d come to us.

When you grew up, you had a child, how joyful
we both were.  Another generation where we
could rock and give more comfort and joy!

Than I woke up from my nap and heard the movers say,
“Okay,  lady get out of that piece of junk, it’s the last piece,
time to haul it to the dump”

Anger crossed my face, as I pushed the man away, “This is
no piece of junk! Can’t you see the life and beauty of this chair, I’ll
take it to my new house with me.

I took it to my new house, a new babe growing in my womb
Another  generation of love the chair would bring.  As I brought the chair back to life again

I felt my Mom smiling at me.

Very creative how you bring a piece so well used by many to life. All the memories that are pressed into its pores, a forever keepsake. I still have the rocking chair that I spent many hours in before my children were born and ever since....

Be always safe,
Karen

Smiles displaying reading about your beautiful rocking chair! I have something similar a dining set with hand sewn chair covers from my dear departed grandmother. Can still see all the cousins lined up on either side anxiously waiting for my grandmas sandwiches -- its broken now almost beyond repair but never will I throw it away. Well Done! Deborah

Little River by Dadfire

Let this coming of age story of a boy named Bean take you back to a simple time. Set in a small southern town in the 1960's, encircled by a river and gleaming white cotton fields.
