Where Did My Big Brother Go?

knowing someone is missing through the eyes of a feline.

Sitting here on my human’s lap, one so soft and warm
having her cuddle me in her arms, a soothing thing, and one I love.
Wait a minute, something is terribly wrong. My brother always sits by the chair
whines and carries on.  He says its his turn to sit on our human’s lap
looks and me and growls.  But as I look around the place,
my brother is nowhere to be found.

Why isn’t he here to argue about this, the way we
always do?  I noticed that at dinner time, he was
missing too.   I paid it no mind, but carried on,
than realized his supper dish was gone!

And as I sit in my human’s lap, I look at her,
and she is shedding tears.  She’s crying so hard
my fur is wet, she’s scaring me, I have to jump down
She reaches down and pats my head, talks to me
and answers my questioning meow.

Than she picks me up, puts me back on her lap and tries to explain
“Oh Jack, he’ll never come back, your big brother died today”

Hi Mary,

This made me cry, it reminds me of my pets who passed away before and
each loss was heartbreaking for me and my children. We have their
photos in the computer but we still miss them. Yes, pets "know" their
fellow pets are missing...and they grieve too. Wonderful poem, thank
you Mary.

Mary, this is sad & I could feel your pain. Having a pet to die can hurt the soul. Well worded.

A very passionate insight from a different perspective. Funny because I have an older kitty, Cherokee, who when Cheyenne, her older sister died, Cherokee went into a tailspin depression. Took months and two new kitties to bring her back to her loveable, playfull self. So you just might be onto something because animals do know, though they might not fully understand....

Be always safe,
Karen

Very unique perspective. To delve into the mind of
a pet is very interesting. Sometimes we can tell
what they are thinking. Very interesting.

So sad and sorry about big brother dying. Glad you could get it on written words so you can let some of it go. I would never of thought to write a poem like this, but it is emotional at best. So sad.
