Isn't it time you looked at your watch?

Staring at me from the wall,
A big round face, that tells me all
When I should work, eat lunch or
Go home.

The face rules the world as everyone knows, it
tells us to stop, pause or go. The face
seems to be some sort of god; or it would seem
without its permission, life couldn’t go on.

We are prisoners of this atrocity, but how much
further will it go? It controls our every movement
How more must we take, it now tells us how to live,
Will it also tell us when to die?

Indeed Mary; our society (lives within it) is orchestrated and manipulated by our slavery to time. I can relate to the feelings that you've expressed here. Love and best wishes,

Regis

Interesting view of what a clock can mean .... it reminds me of a Christmas Gift we gave to my mother-in-law. We thought it very pretty -- an attractive piece for her home. Unfortunately, she didn't ... we quickly exchanged it for what I don't remember. But she asked where we trying to remind her of how little time she had left ... or something of that order. Don't remember her exact words. But those were her words .... she wasn't widowed yet; her health seemed to be good ... so what brought that on I'll never know.
Yes - clocks do rule the world. Susan

"Will it also tell us when to die?" It may well do, Mary, it may well do. A gorgeous piece.

The clock and time. Time is a way to relate to events with an additional perspective. We have come to view time quite often as a separate entity unto itself. It is a metric for man's internal audit and evaluation scales. Without man, useless minutia, non-existent. I like the challenge your poem offers to analyze time's meaning. Thanks. JMW

Mary, "time" we cannot stop & yes, the clock keep ticking and we cannot stop it for a second. We should live as though there is "no" clock and quit this thing called living on borrowed time. A nice write.

Thought provoking, to be sure - when we are timed to do something, penalized for going over, we learn to live by the clock - well done, Mary!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Hmm, a thought provoking write my friend...yes we all are held captive by time in one way or another! I wrote a poem sometime ago maybe titled the hands of time...for time is an intriguing inspiration...well done!
Blessings,
Joyce B.
