a few memories from childhood...and not so great adulthood

Mom, Mom!!! Good Humor Man!
Can I have a dime?
Oh, come here, I suppose you can.

Running outside in my bare feet,
My precious ice cream running down my face
It feels so good all over my cheeks.

I'm bored I'll listen to what the grown-ups say.
"Do you believe it, gas may go up to one dollar?""
"No, if that ever happens, I'm not driving, no way!"

Knocking on my friend's door in the warm summer eve,
Daylight savings time is here,  get to go to bed late
Would you c'mon, we're gonna play soft ball in the street!

I know!  Let's go catch some lightening bugs, lot of them tonight.
Look, I have more than you…you couldn't catch them if you wanted to.
Oh, darn, Mom wants us to come in.  She said don't shut
the front door
Gonna be a hot one tonight

Travelling to Baltimore, finally got enough green stamps from the
store.  I remember pasting all the stamps in the books.   Now
Mom can get whatever she wants.

Twenty years ahead……

Why don't you go outside and play?  It's such a beautiful day.
No, Mom, can't do that, got a brand new video game.

Would you just look at this credit card bill…where does
the money go?  But I have all I want and at least don't
have to wait like Mom for months.

Did you remember to lock the front door?
You just can't trust anyone anymore.

Mary Lacey

Love how you brought this full cycle, and for those of us who can still remember when we didn't have to lock the doors at night I am sure it will reawaken a lot of happy memories.fee

A lot of memories here, Mary, and a bit of truth.
I like to think that the good old days are yet to come.

There is no doubt that times have changed... ...and sadly, in a lot of ways, not for the better. Thank you, Mary. Love and best wishes to you,

Oh, darn, Mom wants us to come in. She says we live
out here day and night. Well, it's so much fun, I guess we do!

The good old days, indeed. The modern generation of 'indoor' kids today, are sadly missing so much.

Incredible how you worked with the subject matter, Mary, and made this like a movie switching from warm colors to blue.
I miss the deep peace and simplicity of the old days, and try to incorporate them into modern life somehow...no video games are in this house, no tv. Still...the children are eager beavers to get to the computer whenever they can, instead of books or my favorite old fashioned board games.
Blessings,
Christine
