A personal view of the prime cause of conflict

An African ruler just sitting by, watching his country’s women cry

The tribal god commands he send their men to fight and die

For food the children plead, westerners rush to meet this need

Only for their aid to disappear into a black hole of greed

The IRA’s pretence at charm, whilst steadfastly refusing to disarm

Needing guns to guard the drug on its journey to a user’s arm

They fought a religious war, neither side accepting a honourable draw

No longer blood, its money and power they now crave the more

English eyes no longer vacant stare, just another damn bomb scare

Increased frequency follows a totally misguided Tony Blair

Was such a mad rush, there was this evil dictator to crush

Claims our superhero, the equally injudicious President Bush

Mullahs’ carefully selected youth, shown uncontroversial proof

Well! At least the religious man’s tainted version of the truth

Sent to camps to gain the skill, and to learn which enemy to kill

All this hatred, masked behind the banner of a god’s will

For whichever deity acts as guide, throughout history man has tried

To take the life of those who disbelieve, all done with stupid pride

For Pagan gods we killed first, Christian enemies faired much worse

Now it is the time for Islam’s infidels turn to catch the hearse

Forget your mythical soul, I see that gods have but one role

And that is nothing more than simple population control

Carefully laid out, steeped in truth, this is bold, fearless and right! (oops... I mean correct!) hmmmmm...

David, as long as Iraq sits on the world's oil supply, Mr. Bush will be blinded to the death and destruction he has unleashed in order to obtain it. In his zeal, he must have forgotten that word "covet" in the 10 Commandments... of course, I'm making a leap, assuming that he has actually ever read them. They made little impression, if he did. I admire your courageous and very honest commentary here. katy xox.

Lots to take in in this poem but thought provoking..Just the kind of writing that I love to read...Great job! Do you think we could put Tony and George in the next shuttle to the moon? They do seem to love one another sooo.......smile

Well written..although I don't agree there was any 'rush' after 17 UN resolutions.

God is such a convenient excuse for so many to go to war

I agree with you that Religion has always been the spark that ignites warfare and rallies the troops, it has done so since the beginning of mankind, but I believe the underlying root cause has always been bigotry and greed.

Greed and power have lead the world's inhabitants to many human errors. That is the reason for the wars.

Good write.
