A view of a not so innocent childhood.

I see a small dark-skinned young boy
in his small hand, what is that toy?
not an object to bring him much fun
just an ancient yet still deadly gun
put there by those for whom he must fight
distant men who care not for his plight
but only for their own personal greed
for this indoctranated hatred they feed

there are those who choose not to kill
but it is these few who pay the bill
the world knows thay never intended
to live in hunger with stomach extended
with even basic food beyond their means
its their images now fill our TV screens
hoping as usual we'll respond as cued
and send our hard earned cash for food

doing this by many is classed as a must
pointing to those millions living in dust
their self-belief not allowing them to pause
to consider how to tackle the real cause
let's stop living in proverbial ivory towers
and use the clout that our finance enpowers
no longer allow our charity to be misspent
but to be used as our big hearts meant

I'm sure much less money will be required
if sent when a population isn't dead tired
it can be used to much better prepare
against what Nature seems so happy to share
instead of ensuring interest payments be met
let's freeze their strangling western debt
allow them to spend it on improved tools
and of course many more and better schools

education for all must be the best thing
that our assistance could possibly bring
ensure that the next generation's might
doesn't come from their ability to fight
leaders learn the best way is to be fair
and wealth should be for a nation to share
I see their offspring manage a childhood
that does not end with them spilling blood
