The Transition of Full Moons Through History In Poetic Form

I Took This Moon Picture just before the "Wolf Moon" in January. I didn't get to see the it full in my area due to the weather.

Moons

Wolf moon has passed into nightfall’s;

The howling breath of winters chill;

Evoking within the new moons;

The ice moon rests in hungers still…

A long season of frozen silence;

The earthen cares renew;

For soon the storm moons will follow;

Nourishing the depths of loon…

Rising buds into growing moon;

The earth will open her eyes;

Into pleasures of birth evoking;

Upon the hare moons rapid rise…

The mead moon will slowly cleanse;

As newfound lovers drink within;

Working to yield the hay moon;

Preparing for corn moons to begin…

Harvest moons will then journey;

The many workloads fare is well;

For under the glowing hunter’s moon,

light path sheds the hunters swell…

To stock the shelves within seasons;

The snow moons enter soon;

Then rest will follow a slumber,

into the cold of winter moons…

Not too far from my home town is Lafayette Indiana; which is near the Tippecanoe River. This is where there is a fantastic yearly celebration called “The Feast of the Hunters Moon” It is such a tradition all the wonderful re-enactments, music, selling booths, feasts of food & also you can wear deerskin clothing, moccasins, and even headdresses, you name it; The pilgrimage of your choice. And the Very best part of this wonderful yearly season is that there is a lot & lot of wild game to feast upon! All the hunters bring their game & cook it, but there is also chicken & beef & pork too. But the best is rabbit, squirrel, deer, and even snake. I am not fond of bear meat. I have never tasted elk, but I do love buffalo. The Hunter’s Moon is a full moon rising in October & back in the day of all full moons gave great light for the hunters to see while they hunted for food for their tribes/families to sustain them through the winter months. February was their most hungry time as the food stock wore thin from all their harvests. This poem is a transition of full moons for each month in poetic form.

A lovely sail among the moons. The time of the harvest moon is a favorite to me. Where I live now, some call it a "Carolina Moon."

Glorious offering for the body and soul. Thank you for sharing the folklore and tradition you have the great fortune to live with. Within every heart is a beast. What we do with it is up to us, indeed. And in our most hungriest hour, we do feed....

The moon (and the wolf as well) has been a source of inspiration for me on numerous occasions. The superb photo effectively complements your verses and what you express within them. Thank you for sharing this gift, Vickie. Love, hugs, and my very best wishes to you,

Vickie, I know all these moons so well. You really described each moon so eloquently, and that photo, oh my, it is simply gorgeous! I was fortunate to see the January full moon, and it was simply spectacular! Very bright, the brightest moon of 2009! I have two skylights in my bedroom and it lit my room up like it was daytime. Of course I did a meditation sitting under this moonlight and charged all my jewelry under all those moonbeams!
Much peace, love, and MOON light!

I eat snakes, as the Chinese people view snakes as a form of warming effect to the stomach, so snakes are always eaten during the winter months. But I personally would not eat rabbit, squirrels, and deer. I think of them as dear and tame animals that can be our friends.

You have described the "Moon" so well in reflection to this hunters festival.

Enjoyed reading this!!!
