At first, I thought I couldn't agree with your last line...but then...I realized the truth of the broken promises line... but maybe the promises weren't meant to be broken. :~)

The ending of the story line of a relationship

Very nice, one of my favorites.
Beginning with that visual detail,
so colorful, creates a visual trigger
that allows you to set the atmosphere.

Hello Dawn,

There's so much pain in the last few lines, "then pretended not to hear
as you quietly closed the door...if ever you would come back-" that grips my heart like a wrench, having been through it before. I find it deeply touching and well written.
