I tried to pretend I didn’t hear it –

that decisive tone in your voice –

the one that always made things

seem so final.

As you turned to leave,

I called your name –

but you never bothered

to look back.

Alone now, in the silence

of this room, I remember dreams

from a lifetime ago –

walking alongside you up empty

staircases –

then calling your name –

frightened, hoping you’d wait –

but you always pressed forward.

It’s only now, after all these years,

that I am able to understand.

And with each tick of the clock,

I feel you slipping away, yet in

some strange way, I feel stronger…

perhaps even hopeful,

for although something

is lost, something is also

gained in these few moments –

these moments of awareness.

Moments of truth wonderfully conveyed. I thought that the first part was very strong and expressive, just as the very last line. Maybe that the beginning of the awareness, after some time, could be emphasized in this poem. I wonder what you think. Lovely piece.

Nice work Dawn, you always have that emotional tie to your thoughts, bringing those moments where clarity is exposed by the awareness of ones own character and sense of growing into their own...that seems to be when we find ourselves...

nice...

Dawn I especially love these lines
Theirs always many clues but we chose to
Ignored them and closed our eyes
And heart to things
That seems so final

I tried to pretend I didn’t hear it –
That decisive tone in your voice –
The one that always made things
Seem so final.

And with each tick of the clock,

I feel you slipping away, yet in

some strange way, I feel stronger…

it does make you stronger!!

Outstanding write I love "Moments of Awareness!!

Sending you Peace Love and Light....Yolie

Dawn - Enjoyed reading your appropriately titled poem " Moments of Awareness. " Especially liked the lines:

And with each tick of the clock,

I feel you slipping away, yet in

some strange way, I feel stronger…

and the truth of:

for although something

is lost, something is also

gained in these few moments –

It is with those moments of clarity, awareness, that we begin to heal and become stronger and more courageous to finish our journey.
We all relate to those moments when we do realize that we must let go and move on.
Wisdom within your words and sadness also.
Peace, love, and light,

Dawn,
You suggest the most valuable solution to all unkindness and pain, the raising of the levels of consciousness to where we truly care and harmonize, not ever easy but worthwhile pursuing. This is truly good.

Oh my! A strong poetic statement and revelation here laced with a kind of pertinacious resolve. Those moments of clarity sometimes make it all worthwhile. Sometimes our most effective and enduring muses can be those that have wounded us the most grievously in the past. Well done Dawn!

Forgive me if I am wrong here but I get the impression that this man, and I use the term loosely, is a hater of women. Your poem expresses so clearly and so powerfully that the deep scar/loss has produced an enormous gain. You dropped pearls of wisdom here my friend. Blessings on you. J'nia. ps glad you are free.

I wanted to review this before reading the other reviews so I would not be influenced by them and I am glad I did. This write pulls the reader back into his/her own past and lovers or family that they have said good bye to. It says so much for it is true, that when we lose people we love we never truly lose them for they leave an indelible mark on our hearts and lifes. I also liked the mid poem break use...very effective.
