Devils attack a train but Roo comes to the rescue.

There was excitement at the station for the word was passed along

That the train from Ida Bay was on its way

The driver was Old Wombat and the fireman was young Roo

And  the passengers were strangers to the bay.

Magpie preened his feathers and strutted 'long the platform

He polished up the doorknobs and the bell.

He knew the train was coming for he heard the far off whistle,

And the rattle of the wheels beside the dell.

"The devils tried to board us!" He heard the driver say.

"Just as we were coming round the bend.

But Roo was there before them with a shovel in his hand

He was as fierce as all cumgudgeon to the end.

He bashed the first one fiercely on his coldly, boldly nose.

The second got a left and then a right.

Then Wombat came behind them with a chunk of rich brown coal,

There was only one more Devil left to fight.

It was Bushranger Dan with a dagger in his hand.

A patch on one mean eye that looked so red.

He grabbed a frightened possom as he crouched behind the seat.

"One move from you and this young possom's dead."

Old Wombat dropped the coal and turned a ghastly white

The passengers sat down without a sound.

The Devil started backing to the forward engine room

While Roo went out the window with a bound.

"I thought you'd see some sense! "Bushranger Dan then cried.

"Now give me all your money in a flash."

The people started searching, and opening up their purses

Then in jumped Roo and made a handsome dash.

He scooped up little Billy like a football hero yet.

He hit the old mean Devil with a right.

He leapt up high above him and both feet connected twice

And that was what was needed for that fight.

Magpie eyed the devil, he was a sad and sorry sight

His bushranger days were gone and dead.

Young Roo was quite a hero, he had saved young Billy's life.

So they cheered and stamped and sang till time for bed.

Now there's excitement at the station for the word is passed along

That the train from Ida Bay is on its way.

And the driver is Young Roo with our Billy for his crew

And the passengers aren't strangers to the bay.
