Death of my husband after 2 year battle with cancer. The last time together.

Poem Artwork

Theo's Song.

I held him fondly all that night

I whispered to him"Hold me tight"

The wind raced madly around the house

Shaking in fury...wanting inside.

The dogs howled briefly by the back door.

But I didn't know what the fuss was for.

As we both slipped deeper into a dream

I felt safe and warm and serene.

In the morning he hugged me tight

Said he loved mewith all his might.

I was satisfied with what he said

As he lay there calmly in our bed.

Then"Open the window, open wide."

I muttered "It's still blowing a gale outside!"

"I'm going fishing!" he declared.

But one hour later he was dead.

"Good fishing my love" I said in my head.

"Good fishing."

Just came across this your poem. So touching, so meaningful, so sad, yet so beautifully rendered.

Holidays always make the memories more urgent.
I'm glad you have sweet and precious memories to hold forever.
So sorry for your loss.

Sad but lovely and deeply meaningful and emotive, Olita. I cannot imagine what it would be like but you have made it memorably lovely somehow. Love and blessings,

Regis

So sad, but memorable nonetheless. Some people don't get that one last night.
