I saw a small green lizard hiding among the leaves,
hiding there so perfectly, unseen, it believes.
Jumping from twig to twig , with acrobatic leaps,
or laying on a sunlit branch upon where it likes to sleep.
Changing its lizard coat from green to tree bark brown,
as it watches the things outside, and watches the world go round,
It sees the robin build a nest from bits of twig and straw,
and hears the sounds of bluebirds and hears the crows harsh caw.
Sometimes it sits on a window sill to see the things inside,
the house where the giants dwell, and house cats do abide.
It may play games, run around, and frolic in the grass,
as the house cats watch intently form the other side of the glass.
Some times it snacks upon a fly who wanders unaware,
a color changing hunter, let all bugs beware.
It may jump upon a giant-girl just to hear a shriek,
or lay on a sunlit branch and pretend to be asleep.
To a lizard so small, all things are big and frightining it may seem,
but a sunlit branch and a few fat bugs are its fondest dream.
It has such fun in a place where things are much too large,
A little lizard who thinks the world is only my back yard.
