A poem dedicated to my beloved father who has been an alcoholic ever since I can remember, but who, when sober, is a loving man to his family and a harmless soul who only loves to sing and dance when under the influence of alcohol.
Oh, My Papa!
Staggering to the open door Into the simple yet strong wooden floor Gently laying his head onto a staircase step Barely speaking before peacefully drifting off to sleep The inexorable effect of alcohol Silently and with certainty taking its toll
What will become of you, my dearest soul? What kind of view does your intoxicated mind behold? Will your tomorrow hold something precious and true ? Do you see what life has brought you? Like the perplexed looks of a son and a daughter Who fear and at the same time love you so?
My beloved father Who has never hurt anyone before Harmless even under the influence of alcohol A friend to strangers and all his neighbors Together with his constant buddies Good old Kulafu* and the great Fundador* They found their own world to sing and soar!
Footnotes: Kulafu - a local brand of native wine in the Philippines Fundador - an imported wine that my father loves!
I love the honesty of your poetry, Sheri, and especially this one.
The topic is one that needs to be expressed openly- and you have done
it in a very readable manner. I hope many people read this poem and that it makes them think deeply. Your love for your dad comes through clearly.
A deeply moving and honestly expressed poem powerfully emotive and meaningful. Thank you, Sheri. Love and best wishes to you,
Regis

A touching tribute to a father. You have expressed your feelings well in this beautiful piece, Sheri. Not so happy, but not so sad too. Love your dad, sober or not. God bless you, dear Sheri.

A sad experience, yes. But as i read your poem over and over again, i can feel respect and loyalty in every word. A serious ailment such as alcohol addiction is never easy to live with but it obviously hasn't dampen your good heart, Sheri. Blessings to you.

So sad but such a beautiful tribute

Addiction to alcohol is a way to Self distraction
but it is an Illness, and there is help!

...honest and passionate pen...of which much is said...but love is still held close...for ones father. You yet...respect your father...he is there now...right or wrong...continue to love him...for I believe when he is gone...you will still hear his song and see his dance...and he will still be your father...forever.

Grew up with a alcoholic, I recall my mom dragging us out of bed in the middle of the night, trying to find safety from a raging drunk, thank God she was strong enough to leave with us. I've seen those whom can drink all their lives without hurting anyone but themselves...those are few and far between. Your write is filled with passion, emotion, and great imagery...as well as a deep love for your father. Well written.
Blessings,
Joyce B.

A loving soul you have Sheri
My Dad was an alcoholic
I hated him. It was like a war when he was drunk
also, he was hell to live with when sober.
I did love him though for some reason.
Keep lovin your Dad Sheri..

If I were a drunkard maybe one of my daughters could write such a tender homage like this one to a father, without pointing fingers or showind regrets, but love, just pure and unadulterated love for one's progenitor...maybe my error was to be sober.
Sweet and brilliant!!!
Wonderful write, Sheri; brava! God bless your daddy, and try to love him, even when he isn't sober. That must be so hard to live with! You are in my prayers!

A wicked Cajun Fairy named Robes Pierre entered the impenetrable Magical doll land of Sha Bebe. Queen Faustina, the ruler of the doll land, thought she had destroyed him, but he's back! Will the doll land survive his evil ways?
Let this coming of age story of a boy named Bean take you back to a simple time. Set in a small southern town in the 1960's, encircled by a river and gleaming white cotton fields.
