Looking back now
it wasn't that bad
the traveling
the discipline
the lifelong memories.
A chance to know
what makes cultures go.
A chance to see
how others view me
not me the person
me the "American"
we the "Americans"--
the envy of the world,
freedon's hope of Democracy.
Looking back now
I slowly realise
the changing view
of time's hue
how good times remembered
outweight the bad
that was there too.
Maybe it's better this way.
I did not want to remember
the bad things anyway.
I like this poem. I too hate remembering the past. But I realize that the past help make me the man I am now. What don't kill you should surely make you stronger in a more positive way.
