*April 18, 2003. I write these two very different poems at the event of a reuniting of an old friendship. While (as recently pointed out by Brittany Renee and others) friend is only a word, this individual was glad to restore an old friendship.
#1: Real Friends
Old friends
are good to have.
Especially when
they welcome you back
after a long absence.
Good friends
are hard to find.
The kind that renew
your friendship as if
nothing changed over time.
Real friends
are always there.
#2: The Years Passed By
The years passed by
with a collective sigh
as two old friends drifted
and their lives shifted.
Both of them married
as one of them tarried
and the other roamed
throughout the world.
No matter how far away
they drifted those days
one never forgot the other--
like a sister and a brother.
After more than three years
as the one returned home
he wrote a letter with fear
that the other had moved.
Much to his delight
the other replied
like a true friend might.
The friendship renewed, in open stride.
These are lovely, J.!! I went over 3 years, once long ago, not contacting my best friend...when you reconnected, it was like a fulfillment of spirit. :)
