The Odd Couple
She asked for diamonds to cover herself in beauty,
He gave her morning snow with ice crystals asparkle.
The world in her hands dazzled her eyes for a moment.
She asked for the sounds of laughter and friendship.
He set out feeders for the migrating birds,
Their chatter enraptured her ears for the season.
She asked for cinnamon and spices to hush her hunger
He stirred pans filled with East Indian flavors,
The balance of sweet and savory satisfied her appetite for a time.
She asked him to waltz to make her feel young again,
To rekindle their romance as it once was.
He said while turning away,“That I can’t do, for it surely takes two,”
Forever after, the truth hurt her insolent soul.
